Myotisoft is the only authorized warranty and repair service for Pettersson D500X full-spectrum bat detectors in North America.
D500X Warranty Service
Early-production D500X hardware may have several defects or incompatibilities that were addressed in later-production units. Pettersson’s excellent warranty fully covers the cost of upgrading these early units to meet the “as new” specifications of current-production devices. Depending on your unit’s hardware revision, Myotisoft can upgrade your unit with the following hardware modifications:
- Early units are not compatible with Pettersson’s D500X external microphone. This microphone has higher gain than your internal mic, and can be extended up to 100m from the device, perfect for placement on met towers, wind turbines, or other locations where environmental protection of the detector itself is required. Older units can not use the new external mic without hardware modification.
- The internal hardware clock battery may very quickly drain due to high self-discharge within 2 – 3 years of service or less. If your D500X clock resets to 2001-01-01 00:00 every time you remove power, you are in need of this modification, which should extend the life of the internal battery for approximately 10 years.
- Some units may not be able to handle multiple high-capacity 32GB CF cards without modification.
- Some early units have improper safeguards against reverse-voltage insertion of batteries. Inserting a set of AA batteries incorrectly could render the device temporarily unusable, requiring it to be sent in for service, without this reverse-voltage protection in place.
- We will upgrade and test your unit with the most-recent stable firmware to include all the “software fixes” that Pettersson has made, including programming your unit’s serial number so that it can be embedded in bat call recordings.
D500X Repairs
In addition to warranty-covered upgrades, we are also authorized for certain repairs, including the replacement of commonly-broken external connectors. For some repairs, Pettersson asks that the device be shipped to their facility in Sweden, so please contact us before shipping a unit for repair!
Instructions
For D500X warranty upgrades or repair, we ask that you please email us first to provide the following info on each unit:
- The serial number, which may be found on the front panel near the CF card slots. Some very early-production units have no externally-marked serial number. We can generally determine which modifications are necessary to bring your unit up to “brand new” specifications based on the serial number.
- A detailed description of any issues you may have observed with the unit, including its recording configuration, power source, and CF cards used. Please note that Pettersson recommends only using SanDisk CF cards, particularly the Extreme III or Ultra II series; there are CF cards on the market that will not work with the D500X.
- Please also send a return shipping address and contact info, timeline considerations, and – for repairs – an optional purchase order number. For North American customers outside the continental United States, please contact us for shipping rates.
